Clare works as a Business Client Manager in our Commercial Property and Casualty department and has been instrumental in making sure that our clients have an insurance program that addresses their individual needs. Here is a quick Q & A with Clare!

What is your role at NAP?

I am a Business Client Manager and I am responsible for managing the insurance program for a very diverse group of commercial clients. My role is to understand the operations of my insureds and to help them structure an insurance program which will address their individual needs. My everyday responsibilities include reviewing and processing renewal policies and endorsements, reviewing contracts, resolving billing issues/concerns, renewal re-marketing and quoting and writing new policies for existing clients as a result of recommended coverages or because of their growing business needs/contract requirements.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

Being in the insurance industry since 1987, I have worked on the inside before working at the agency level so I have been exposed to the carrier side of the industry. This experience has enlightened me on how carriers work. I worked on the carrier side of the accounting department, subrogation of claims, employee policies, fleet insurance, and underwriting. The knowledge I gained from my carrier experience has led me to have a better understanding of what carriers look for when underwriting risks. When I look at an account I not only look at the risk itself but also at all the facets of how underwriting is going to look at that specific risk.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Educating my clients on the importance of risk management and how insurance dovetails with it is what I enjoy most in this business. Helping clients understand the coverages they have and helping them find solutions to their insurance needs also brings me enjoyment on a daily basis. When our clients are happy, I am happy.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

When I was in my early 20’s, I was looking to make some extra money to pay off my new car so I took a part-time position at a Days Inn Hotel as a weekend night auditor. I serviced these weekend guests who often were guests arriving from out of town or local guests who were attending weddings and other events. This job was often challenging but fun at the same time. The hotel was small – only 100 rooms – so I was the only one on Friday and Saturday nights (11-7am) working the front desk, checking guests in and out as well as auditing the guest files to make sure everyone was paying the correct room rates and doing the end-of-day close out and processing reports for home office before the morning desk clerk arrived at 7am. Looking back now, it was an unusual job for me given the fact that I stayed in the insurance industry this long.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

For the most part, my outside-of-work activities these days revolve around what my daughter wants to do – she always has the best ideas for having a fun time!!! I also enjoy going out to dinner with friends and family and sharing a nice cocktail or a simple glass of wine with family and friends, which always creates the best memories and fun times.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

The one thing I couldn’t live without… that’s easy – FAMILY!!!

What is your hidden talent or an interesting fact about you?

My hidden talent… if I told you… it would no longer be hidden! However, I’ll give you a clue – it’s all about treading water!!!

What is your favorite movie and/or book? Why?

I have many favorite movies, but particularly anything Marvel Comics. I love superheroes! Why?? Because they are the good guys always fighting for the people and the underdog! My favorite books are the Twilight series because I really enjoy all that has to do with the supernatural, vampires and immortality. Hearing the love story of a vampire makes him appear less of a monster than everyone always thinks him to be.

What is your motto, personal mantra, or a favorite quote?

The truth shall set you free!!! I find that people appreciate honesty so why mess with that?

When are you happiest?

Of course, I am happiest when I am with my family, friends and my pets (my cats Betsy and Julius and our betta fish Red). On the flip-side, I can’t leave out my clients! Over the years they have become good friends as well and when they give me the opportunity to solve their insurance dilemmas and find solutions to their difficult situations, that really makes me happy!!!
